Frequently Asked Questions - Girls Rec Basketball
What is the girls recreational league?
What ages/grades does the girls rec league cover?
When does the season start? How long does it run?
Is there a playing time policy?
The recreational league provides girls from the Hamilton Southeastern school district an enjoyable place to learn and play basketball.
For the 2011-12 season, we will be offering recreational leagues for the following grades:
1st/2nd Grade
3rd Grade
4th Grade
5th/6th Grade
Practices begin in early November, with games beginning in December. The season concludes with a tournament in early March.
Teams generally practice twice weekly until the season starts, then once weekly for the remainder of the season. Weekday practices are an hour long and are scheduled to begin and end somewhere within the 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. time frame. Days and times depend on gym availability. Saturday practices and games take place between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Girls rec league fees are currently $110. This covers a jersey and shorts, SPORTS membership dues, insurance, officials, etc.
Volunteer parent coaches are utilized. The league commissioners will select the coaches from those who express an interest in coaching or assisting.
The players are divided up into teams by the league commissioners. Evaluations are held for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th/6th grade leagues to group the players by skill level, and the commissioners will attempt to create balanced teams based on the evaluations. Any players not attending evaluations will be randomly assigned to a team.
All players must play a minimum of two (2) full quarters. Each player must sit out one (1) quarter unless a team does not have enough players available. Over the course of the season - and as much as possible in each game - all players should receive equal playing time.
While registration is open (June - mid September), a full refund will be given to players that pull out of the league. After registration is closed, no refunds will be given.
