The Kohl’s American Cup, the largest recreational soccer tournament in the country, provides recreational youth soccer players the opportunity to participate in a fun, family-oriented tournament. The tournament will be hosted by FSC and is open to all FSC recreational soccer teams as well as recreational teams from surrounding communities. Please keep this weekend in mind as you make summer vacation plans.

WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE BLOOD?

Every two seconds someone needs blood. Every minute, patients use more than 36 units of blood or blood products. Every Day, the Indiana Blood Center MUST supply 550 units of blood to our 60 area hopsitals.

Despite the urgent need for more donors, less than 5 percent of healthy Americans actually donate each year. Giving blood is safe, simple and takes less than an hour. Each donor receives a free mini-physicial that checks for anemia, body temperature, pulse and blood pressure. Donors also receive free cholesterol screening results with every blood donation.

Blood is the ONLY thing that cannot be remanufactured, and the ONE thing that is in constant demand. Please continue to go out and donate if you do on a regular basis and if you have never, open your heart and think about trying. You never know when you or a loved one will be faced with needing blood.

My son just finished his flag football season playing with Joe Dunn’s Bengals.

I thought Joe Dunn was a very good coach. He taught solid fundamentals which led the boys to improve all season long. He stressed the importance of schoolwork. He exhibited as well as taught good sportsmanship. He let the boys play different positions, in practice and during games. He constantly encouraged the boys to do better while giving recognition of their accomplishments.

If my son plays football next year, I could ask no better coach for my son than Joe Dunn.

We cannot strongly enough express our concern on these matters. Last season saw too many examples of misbehavior by adults at our youth games. In one occurrence the police were called, in another the game was called. Adults – we need to control our language and behavior. We need to set the example for the youth so that they can take a “bad call,” deal with it, not cause a disruption for the other players and complete the game. We should be gracious in victory and turn defeat to a victory by working toward improvement of our skills.

The Southeastern Program of Recreational Team Sports requests that tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs not be used during any team sponsored event.
